My Top 100 Films of the past decade!

Here they are. The following list comprises hundreds of hours I found truly rewarding both at the cinema and in the comfort of my own home. Don't read into the 'order' of the films...each has its own place. True, I love some more than others. I truly believe that if you didn't see all of these films over the last 10 years...you missed out on something special. There is so much here on offer to peruse, I will understand the tendency to immediately observe what isn't on the list. So yes, 'Slumdog Millionaire' isn't on the list. Neither is 'Pan's Labrynth'. Though good films, they just didn't 'hook' me in the way I was told they would. 'Rambo' you say? I can explain. But before I do, have a gander...and discuss. (I have italicized the films with corresponding pictures).

Great list mate...It's so long I can't keep track of possible omissions (if there are any) so (as you requested) I won't bother!

Heh-heh,

Yeah...I'm quickly becoming a windbag with these things. It started out as a 'top 50'...but I got carried away with it...

I have some remorse with it though...I regret being so presumptuous...after all, Oscar season is currently going strong and the end of the decade hasn't happened yet.

I think I'll make room for one more film to crack the list...('My Top 101 Films of the past decade' perhaps?)

But only if Cameron wows me with his latest opus...

Have you seen 'The Hunger' yet? One of the best and most beautifully made films of the decade...Michael Fassbender's moving and demanding portrayal of Bobby Sands ranks as one of the best performances to see.

Ya, i'm hoping for good things out of Avatar. I know I'll like it, but will I LOVE it? Not sure. I haven't seen The Hunger yet...need to check it out for sure. Have you seen The Agronomist? really interesting doc on Jean Dominique - the Haitian journalist who was murdered. Really something if you can track it down.

The Agronomist...sweet title. I'll try to find a copy. I almost put another film on the 100 list...but felt it was too artsy-fartsy...but it's beautiful in its own way. It's called "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait". A fantastic, mesmerizing soundtrack by Mogwai, and a thoroughly original film. (It probably belongs in an art museum on a loop).

On AVATAR:

Just saw it last night. I'll say this:

It's a real feast in 3D. If you've got allergies...stay away from this film! The flora and fauna seemingly leap off-screen. Best dialogue? No. Most original story? Of course not. But I wasn't there for those reasons and I don't think 95% of film-goers will be either. The spectacle is a real feast and well worth seeing in 3D.

Seeing a film like this is analogous to watching an early 17th century lavish court masque by Inigo Jones. (Adjusted for inflation, Inigo Jones probably spent more than Cameron as well!)

I sat in the fourth row...and was immersed...I hope you like it...

Dang...I've only seen about 18. I must have missed out on a lot.

Merry Christmas primo to you and your beautiful family.
